Birthday Wishes for a Grandson
Your grandson doesn't need a speech. He needs a few lines that sound like you. Pick a wish below and add something he'll recognize, like the name of your fishing spot or the cereal he only eats at your house.
By age
First birthday: Write down one moment from his first year so he can read it later. The face he made at his first lemon slice. The game that got a laugh every single time.
Childhood: Write about what he's into right now, whether that's beetles or baseball cards. Keep it short enough to read to him in one go.
16th birthday: He wants room. Praise something you've noticed and leave the instructions out.
18th birthday: Tell him plans can change, and that's fine. Offer your help without asking him to prove anything first.
21st birthday and beyond: Talk to him like the adult he is. Don't guess how he'll celebrate or what comes next.
Written from grandma / grandpa
From Grandma: A routine you share makes the card yours: the Thursday phone call, the show you both watch, the cookies he steals off the cooling rack. Write "I" and sign with the name he uses for you.
From Grandpa: Mention something you do together, or say plainly what you admire about him. You're allowed to say it without wrapping it in a joke.
From both: Write "we" and pick a memory you were both there for. If there's room, each of you can add a line.

Good week or bad week, you're welcome here. Happy birthday.
Grandma's birthday promise: I'll hear the whole story before I give my opinion. Keep this card as evidence.
You're never an interruption. Your visits are what I tell the neighbors about for days.

Remember [the day we fixed the old bike]? You were so pleased you'd worked out the chain yourself. I hope you get that feeling a lot this year.

Pancakes are on me next Sunday. Bring your appetite, and bring [your best friend] too.
